Design Process

‍The New Musical by Janet Yates Vogt and Mark Friedman

Green Gables is a new musical by Janet Yates Vogt and Mark Friedman based on the classic story of Anne of Green Gables. This production at the The Human Race Theatre Company was the first with full orchestration. The chorus needed a home on stage because they are actively involved in many of the musical numbers. Risers with an eclectic assortment of chairs to represent each distinct character in the chorus was my solution. There were windows signifying the townspeople. In Avonlea, the townspeople seemed to be watching Anne. Anne gazed out through her window at Green Gables at opportunities now available to her. Through these small windows of opportunity Anne won over Marilla and the rest of the townspeople with the love within her own heart.
