Design Process

Designing a show for the studio theatre poses interesting challenges like a small budget, very limited labor, and the quirky nature of the apse end of the Cohen Family Studio Theatre. For this show, that curved brick wall with archways was beneficial. We created the Frau Schneider's boarding house by building flats with doors to fill in several of the archways. The spiral staircase provided a wonderful bridge between the boarding house and the Kit Kat Klub. The aesthetic for this show was that everything once was beautiful and opulent, but had been slowly decaying. This was reinforced by the curtain portal framing the set, the props, costumes, and the makeup.
