My approach to Aspects of Love was to capture the lyrical beauty of the score as well as the complicated, intertwined relationships of the story. The graceful qualities of the Art Nouveau movement were a natural choice. Steven C. Anderson, the director, and I discussed the need to facilitate the many scenic changes quickly and effortlessly with minimal furniture choreographed with the actors as to keep weaving the threads of the story. The translucent backdrop, 3 screens, a rolling staircase, and 6 bentwood chairs took the audience on the journey from backstage, to a villa in France, to Italy, a Paris apartment, a fairgrounds, and many other locations with the help of the audience's imagination and the beautiful lighting.
